Music, imagination, and fantasy are the tools we use to explore movement and dance.
RD begins to develop gross motor skills, balance with cognitive and cooperative skills using games, songs and props in a nurturing environment, while having FUN!
This class performs in the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Introduction to Dance (4 yr olds)

ID develops locomotor movements like skipping, hopping and polka.Through the class children develop social skills, cooperative participation , counting and memorizing movements.. Music, imagination and fantasy remain an integral part of the curriculum. Students are encouraged to feel the freedom and joy of their movement.
This class performs in the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Pre-Ballet 1 (5 yr olds)
Tuesday 2:45-3:35 pm, Wednesday 2:30-3:20 pm, Thursday 3:45-4:35 pm, Saturday 8:50-9:40 am
PB1 introduces a more formalized class structure that includes more complex combinations of locomotor movements and the fundamental positions of basic vocabulary of ballet. Freedom to explore the physical possibilities without restraint is an important part of the class. Fantasy games are used in the exploration of both the locomotor movement and ballet steps.
This class performs in the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Pre-Ballet 2 (6 yr olds)
Monday 4:45-5:35 pm, Tuesday 4:45-5:35 pm, Wednesday 3:30-4:20 pm Saturday 9:45-10:35 am
PB2 introduces increased ballet vocabulary without the use of the barre. Included in the class are basic positions and locomotor movements ie., chasse,pas de chat, saute arabesque and more. Fantasy games and freedom of movement are still a part of this class.
This class is eligible to perform in Nutcracker in December and the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Pre-Ballet 3 (7 yr olds)
Wednesday 4:00-4:50 pm, Thursday 4:40-5:30 pm
PB3 prepares students for the discipline that will be necessary for a traditional ballet class. Initial Barre work includes standing against the wall under the Barre to find placement and posture while learning the order of steps. Centre practice includes multiple ballet locomotor steps, chasse, saute, pas de chat, leaps as well as character steps that teach transfer of weight and balance. Imagination, Fantasy and storytelling are still included to express the joy of dance and movement.
This class is eligible to perform in Nutcracker in December and the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Ballet 1 (Age 8)
Tuesday 4:00-5:00 pm, Wednesday 2:45-3:45 pm, Saturday 10:30-11:30 am
B1 is ready to accept the rigors and discipline of classical ballet training. Floor, Barre and Centre work develop strength, coordination and flexibility.
B1 benchmarks include: Barre work- plies-demi and grande, tendus devant, a la seconde and derrière, sur le coup de pied, ronde de jambe, releve. Centre Practice-head direction/facings, pas de bourrés, chaînes saute, changement, échappe, balance, grande jeté.
This class is eligible to perform in Nutcracker in December and the Dance Demonstrations in June.

Ballet 2 (9 yr olds)
Wednesday 4:00pm-5:00 pm, Friday 4:15-5:15 pm
B2 by placement. Students may join the Youth Company. Students who choose to perform as Youth Company members are highly encouraged to take an additional class; Ballet, Hip Hop or Musical Theater Jazz.
B2 benchmarks include: Barre work- plies-demi and grande, tendu, dégage, fondu all en croix, ronde de jambe, relevé, grande battement. Centre Practice-head direction/facings, pas de bourrés, pirouettes, pique, pique turns, changement, assemble, échappe, balance, grande jeté.
1 class per week: $275 per 9-week session
2 classes per week: $470 per 9-week session

Ballet 3/Pre-Pointe
Thursdays 4:15-5:15 pm Saturdays 10:45-12:00 noon
B3 by placement. Students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 2 Ballet classes per week. An additional class is highly recommended; Contemporary, (Contemporary 1) Hip Hop, or Musical Theatre Jazz.
B3 benchmarks include: Placement and alignment of the body as well as coordination of the head, arms, and legs in reference to movement. Strengthening of feet and legs, both during warm-up exercises and barre work. Fondue and other movements from one leg both parre terre and en releve. Pirouettes from 5th position and 4th position. Vocabulary of additional steps are introduced.

Ballet 4/Beginning Pointe
Tuesdays 4:15-5:30 pm, Thursdays 4:15-5:30 pm, Fridays 4:15-5:30 pm
B4 by placement. Students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 3 Ballet classes per week. An additional class is highly recommended; Contemporary, (Contemporary 1) Stretch and Strength or Hip Hop.
B4 is eligible to apply for the Accelerated Study track.
At the discretion of the teacher, students are eligible to begin dancing en pointe. B4 benchmarks include: Practice of complex patterns at the barre, musicality, and more complex spatial patterns in center. Students begin corps de ballet work to learn how to dance in unison.
It is important that this level take all available ballet classes (3). It is a pivotal year in their training because they are first year pointe students.

B5 is eligible to apply for the Accelerated Study track.
B5 benchmarks include: More challenging/complex combinations at the barre and center, including double pirouettes en pointe, adding beats to their jumps, and working on leg extensions.

Boys Class/Non-Binary Class (Ages 8-11)
Fridays 5:20-6:20 pm
This class is offered to students ages 8-11 who identify as male and/or non-binary. The class will be structured as a Ballet class with emphasis on jumps, turns, and lifts.

Teen Ballet (Ages 12-17)
Wednesdays 5:00-6:15 pm
Teen ballet welcomes students of all levels and is open to dancers ages 12-17. This class may be used as a starting point for beginning dancers or as a supplemental class for experienced dancers. Teen ballet provides the fundamentals and technical foundation of ballet while moving at a methodical pace that encourages learning in a diverse class setting. Teen ballet is a strong recommendation and beneficial addition for dancers on the Mixed Styles track.

Advanced A

By Placement. Advanced A students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 3 Ballet classes and 1 additional class; Ballet, Contemporary (Contemporary 3 or Contemporary 3/4) or Stretch and Strength.
Advanced A students are eligible for Honors and Composition if they are taking all their required classes. Advanced A students are also eligible to apply for Accelerated Study.
Advanced A benchmarks include: Polishing technical skills and artistry. In this level the difficulty of steps, complexity and length of combinations is increased, and classical and neo-classical variations are introduced as a tool to allow students to begin to explore individual artistic expression within choreography.

By Placement. Advanced B students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 3 Ballet classes and 1 additional class; Ballet, Contemporary (Contemporary 3 or Contemporary 3/4) or Stretch and Strength.
Advanced B students are eligible for Honors and Composition if they are taking all their required classes. Advanced B students are also eligible to apply for Accelerated Study.
Advanced B benchmarks include: Continual focus on technique and artistry. Additionally, students are challenged with more difficult and complex steps that require sharp focus and improved strength. Combinations and choreography increase in length and technicality. An emphasis is placed on more challenging jumps, turns, and pointe work.

By Placement. Advanced C students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 3 Ballet classes and 1 additional class; Ballet, Contemporary (Contemporary 4 or Contemporary 3/4) or Stretch and Strength.
Advanced C students are eligible for Honors and Composition if they are taking all their required classes. Advanced C students are also eligible to apply for Accelerated Study.
Advanced C benchmarks include: Expansive training to focus on longer adagio combinations, speed and accuracy in various turns, complex petite allegro, and building more powerful grand allegro.

By Placement. Advanced D students may join the Youth Company. In order to perform with the Youth Company students are required to take 3 Ballet classes and 1 additional class; Ballet, Contemporary (Contemporary 4 or Contemporary 3/4) or Stretch and Strength.
Advanced D students are eligible for Honors and Composition if they are taking all their required classes. Advanced D students are also eligible to apply for Accelerated Study.
Advanced D benchmarks include: Focus on polishing and refining their technique while incorporating individual artistic expression into movement. Longer ninety-minute classes build strength and endurance. Students in this level have the opportunity to perform roles that may require these elements. Students also work to hone their craft with the intention to continue dance in a professional company, college, or post high school for recreation.

Honors Ballet (Advanced A-D)
Saturdays 11:00am-12:00 pm
To qualify for our Honors Ballet class students must have good attendance, take 3 ballet classes as well as their additional class: Ballet, Contemporary, or Stretch and Strength.
Ballet students have the option of taking Composition and Choreography as their Honors class.
The Honors Ballet class will include variations, mixed repertoire, guest instructors and wellness experts. Honors students will also have the opportunity to represent Stapleton School of the Performing Arts in our wellness/community engagement initiatives.
